Me: Just being

March 13, 2012

So, it was my birthday weekend [yesterday was my actual birthday] and i decided to go to my backyard playground, New York, and enjoy a nice weekend with my dolls.  Full of shopping, people watching, eating and just being.  NY and I have a love hate relationship, but it did me well over the weekend!   the weather was perfect, so i let my natural hair be kissed by the sun.  just a little faux hawk.

i have a new found love for color so i decided to splurge and get lots of color denim [yellow, mint, sky blue, and coral].   They can be found here or several other places like Gap, Anne Taylor, ASOS and…well, pretty much everywhere since Color Blocking is the “thing” now.

Happy Birthday to meeeee.  [smile]

Hair: Oyin Handmade

March 1, 2012

Anyone who knows me, knows that i am always playing in my hair, discovering my texture and finding what product works best for my lovely coils.  i would go so far as to say i was or am a product junkie, but i dare not spend a whole lot of money on several different products at a time.  I tend to stick with one line of products and use them until they are completely gone.  From there, i choose which products stay in my regiman and which ones i can do without.

Well, there is one product that i recently found out i cannot do without.  It is called Honey Dew Conditioner [leave in] from Oyin Handmade based in Baltimore, MD.  When i tell you i am in love with it after just one use, i can’t express it much more than that.  The sweet suttle smell and the way it makes my coils so soft and hydrated, i can’t get enough.

A piece about Oyin Handmade:

“Our hair & body products speak for themselves, in the silky skin and happy hair of our satisfied customers. Our goodies are designed with a focus not only on aesthetics and styling, but the nourishment and health of hair & skin.

We are a family-owned company, named after the Yoruba word for ‘honey’ – one of nature’s most versatile beauty products! Honey has been used for centuries to not only soften and cleanse, but to also tone and hydrate the skin. It softens and moisturizes skin and as a humectant, helps skin to retain water. Honey dissolved in water is an excellent moisturizer, so we find it perfect for bath, skin and hair care products. Honey and beeswax both have a soothing effect on the most sensitive of skins.

Many of our products utilize the power and sweetness of honey, and all are made from scratch, by hand, in small batches to ensure freshness. We never use petroleum, silicones, parabens, or non-nourishing fillers – every ingredient in our mixtures has work to do! In our goodies you can find unrefined shea butter, nutritive sea vegetables, pure aloe vera juice, nourishing vitamins, and herbal infusions carefully chosen for their beneficial and healing properties.

Rich creams, botanical styling products, fragrant lotion bars, succulent SLS-free shampoo bars, and oil-free conditioner sprays… Oyin Handmade products are tried and tested by people with a wide range of skin sensitivities and hair needs, with results that can be seen in the testimonials that pepper our website. At Oyin, we believe the luxury of pure and natural hair and skin treatments should be accessible to all, even those without the time to spend researching ingredients, testing recipes, and slaving over a hot double-boiler. (smile)”

Well, there you have it.  I am one happy customer and Oyin Handmade will always have a place in my hair pantry.  Please check out their website here and try for yourself.  They offer trial sizes if you like to test drive before you buy.  Enjoy!
