Skin: Juice Beauty

March 5, 2012

Recently, i discovered probably one of the best skin care products ever known to mankind.  Ok, maybe not to all mankind, but specifically to my skin, Grace.  Yes, i named my skin Grace because like any individual, she can be very temperamental but she has to be loved and pampered with Grace [heehee!].

Back to the subject at hand, over many years, as far as i can remember, i have always had some sort of skin issue but i used to mark it off as “oh, i’m a teenager and this sort of thing is supposed to happen.”, or “i’m pregnant and my hormones are going all kinds of crazy causing stress acne.”, or even better, “it’s this darn crazy weather in DC that just doesn’t do well with my skin.  Same with the Florida weather that i was born in that didn’t like my skin.  If i move to the west coast, it’ll be better.”.  There was always an excuse, but fact of the matter is, i have adult acne and that is all to it.

Now coming to terms with this stigma, i have decided to do something about it besides covering it up with my trusty MAC products.  i tried a couple of “tested and approved” systems for skin of color that was supposed to treat my hyperpigmented blemishes but to no avail.  Then, i set off to try Proactiv but thought against it as even the smell of the product scared me away from it.  See, i have sensitive skin and i didn’t want to use anything that could potentially make it worse.

That leads me to Juice Beauty.  Never in a million years would i have tried this product, but lucky me, i was a recipient of the sample sized Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Serum in my monthly subscription of Birchbox.  So i figured, why not?  I’ve tried everything else under this sun and this product claimed to be organic, so off i go.  First i started using it once a day to be sure it wouldn’t irritate my skin and then after a few days, i upped the ante and used it twice a day, once in the morning and once before bed.  This went on for a week, and i never paid attention to my skin in doing so.  It just became a part of my everyday regimen.  Well, this morning as i was gently drying my face after cleansing it, that is when it hit me.  EUREKA!!!  My blemishes are fading!  I couldn’t believe my eyes.  Literally, the darkest blemishes that ran me ragged daily were finding their ways off my face and now revealing my chestnut-kissed by the sun skin.  Ahhh…i can breath!

So now of course, i went online and googled this product, really doing my research and low and behold, this happens to be what bloggers and youtubers swear by.  And truth be told, it is made up of nearly 95% organic content and derived from plants.  Not to mention, it’s super inexpensive!  $29 a pop and a little goes a long way.  It can be used as a spot treatment or a moisturizer.  My makeup even looks better.  I get compliments all the time as to how my skin is glowing and looks so pretty.  I am one happy customer and now have a product i will not live without.  Check it out here and tell me what you think.  Enjoy!

My ideal everyday look

Since i could remember, i have always been the little girl more into simplicity and comfort versus the glitz and glamour when it came to hair, makeup and my style of dress.  i’ve tried over the years as i have grown into an adult to spruce things up a bit, but if it’s not in me, i’m not willing to force it for the sake of what’s considered “fashion” or acceptible in the current social media’s to only be uncomfortable and lacking confidence.

Me in a nutshell:

MAKEUP:  consists of a concealer, tinted moisturizer, press powder, a natural tinted gloss [MAC Viva Glam V lipglass to be exact] mascara and a nice bronzer or soft blush [MAC Peachtwist] that gives me a little bit of a pop of color and that is it.

STYLE:  well, i’m a lover of anything Vintage.  i remember as a young girl, rummaging through my mothers closet looking forward to including some of her pieces into my future wardrobe.  I love anything from a  high waisted pencil skirt or pleated skirt that goes past my knobby knees, a button up blouse with a big soft bow tie at the kneck and a nice pair of pumps.  Jewerly has never been my thing, so i have to try to embellish with my shoe game.  This is as good as it gets.

HAIR:  i’m even that much more simple when it comes to hair.  Because i am a new natural head [meaning, i shaved my hair off in March of last year] and my hair is finally at a nice 4 inches long, there is not much i can do with it.  the most courageous i’ve gotten was rocking a faux hawk on New Years Eve and for a friends birthday gathering recently, that actually turned out super cute and was a hit with everyone.  Even my sweetie!  However, as soon as it proves itself to be long enough, a high bun it is!

This is as good as it gets and i love me just the way i am.  what’s your style?

Beauty: birchbox or myglam

December 2, 2011

UPDATE:  While, I am IN LOVE with my birchbox subscription i receieve monthly, I am not so happy with the Glam Bag.  I know they are a new company and still trying to establish themselves, but the customer service has been non-existant [via email] as they do not respond to you, you cannot contact a real person by phone, and in my bag, i only received 2 out of the 4 or 5 samples that are supposed to be included only because they replaced them with gift cards.  Maybe they ran out, i’m not sure, but i’m hoping March will be a better month for them.  If not, i will be canceling my subscription quick, fast and in a hurry.  *fingers crossed*

so i recently stumbled upon an amazing blog and i’m in love with her DIY’s.  but the article that peeked my interest in particular was about a birchbox.  i’ve never in my life heard of such a thing unless she was speaking of a birch colored wood box that you could find at ikea.  but that wasn’t it.  to my surprise, birchbox, is a company that sends you great samples of makeup, skincare, hair products, tools, etc., every month in a cute box!

Amazing right!  unfortunately, it’s not for free, but what in this world is?!  i decided to give their monthly subscription a try and see what treats i get in over the next couple of months.  Hey…a girl deserves to treat herself at least once a month. [giving you the side eye]

Now, i really feel like i have been living in my own world of oblivion because i also recently found out that one of my favorite YouTubers, Michele Phan,  just started her own monthly bag sample products called myglam and i’m sure it’s all that and then some.  the catch with hers is that its only filled with makeup, and because myglam is still new, she doesn’t have many sponsors yet, but i’m sure she will very soon.  I’ve never been much into makeup, but a new year is upon us and it’s time to try new things.

What i love most about both of these merchants is that i am able to sample things i probably wouldn’t normally pay money to do.  Oh and get this…myglam bags feature full size products and deluxe sized samples!  last but not least, if you do a monthly subscription, you can cancel at any time with no penalty!  WINNING!

I will keep you all posted on the great surprises that will be coming to a mailbox near me soon.  🙂
